Every day, dusk to dawn:  Do you love to visit cemeteries…especially in October? Wander through Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan to visit the mystery of the “Lady in Granite,” the gravestone for the Gillette family.


The ghost there is believed to be that of Matilda “Tilly” Bishop Gillette (1859-1936) and the image of her reclining head appeared mysteriously on the dark grave. To date, nothing has been able to remove it, even repeated polishing of the stone, and it is believed that over time, her whole image will be formed and she will be released to haunt the local community.
