Witness more than 7,000 spooky, hand-carved pumpkins illuminate the grounds at the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at the historic Van Cortlandt Manor. Complete with synchronized lighting and an original soundtrack, this one-of-a-kind event is not to be missed!

Classical Arts Entertainment presents the ballet fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in two acts with one intermission.
There are fairy tales that inspire creators to create performances in different genres and directions. One of these was the favorite fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." This time, the fairy tale comes to life in dance and staging by the State Ballet Theater of Ukraine. Our ballet is a story about love, friendship, witchcraft, and the eternal struggle between good and evil.

Singer-songwriters Len Widdekind and Ed Gorham make up the core of Butternut Creek Revival. Their influences are varied and include folk, rock, blues, jazz, and traditional American and European roots music. Butternut Creek Revival plays as a duo and adds great local musicians from time to time to expand their sound. At a show they will often choose songs “on the fly” that feel right for the moment in order to connect with their audience. Some audiences would prefer to hear recognizable covers, while others would prefer a more eclectic blend of original music and songs written by others.

Early November is an exciting time to witness the wonders of fall bird migration at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. Join us on this guided adventure as we search for journeying migrants such as waterfowl, shorebirds, and more. We will also learn about the history of this place that is so crucial as a migration stopover site for birds.

This program is designed for ages 15 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. Meet at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge visitor center at 10 am. Bring binoculars and dress warm. Most of this program will take place via car caravan, with a potential stop at an observation tower that includes stairs.

The annual CNY Veterans Parade and Expo will continue to be an outpouring of gratitude and support for our soldiers and veterans. The purpose of the event is "Thanking Our Veterans" of every generation and conflict.

The one and one-half hour long parade at 12:00 noon features more than 90 veterans and military organizations from throughout Central New York and beyond. The parade is based on the old-fashioned military style parades that featured military vehicles, local military units, Veterans of Foreign War Posts and American Legions. Every branch of the armed services and every conflict since WWII are represented.

Come join us for a nature immersion experience for the whole family where everyday stresses are released. You can experience fun ways to be with nature with your children in this spring season on a guided Forest Therapy/Shinrin Yoku Walk led by June Leo-Randazzo, a Certified ANFT Forest Therapy Guide.

As you enjoy time with your family and others in the forest, you will have a chance to share with others what you are noticing in any way you would like to (words, movement, gestures and even silence). During our times of sharing, we will all practice listening with our full attention to whomever is sharing (no worries if young children need to move around, as all are welcome).

This walk is for ages 5 and up.

The Bronck Museum will once again be holding its popular Chilly Willy Winter’s Eve tours. These special content tours are designed to provide visitors with a small taste of winter living in times past, long before the comfort and convenience provided by central heating and artificial light made winter life much easier. A costumed guide will lead visitors through the interiors of the venerable Bronck houses decorated for the celebration of the late fall and early winter holidays of Martinmas, St. Nicholas Day and St. Lucia Day. Passengers will read along with the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg. Once at The North Pole, Santa and his Elves board the train to greet passengers and each guest is given the first gift of Christmas – a silver sleigh bell. Plant identification can be tricky in the winter! While many focus on the woody plants like trees and shrubs, a shocking diversity of herbaceous plants can be confidently recognized throughout the colder seasons. Winter plant ID is one part knowledge, one part forensics, and one part imagination, but with these skills, you can impress your friends by identifying plants and plant remains even under deep snow.

This program is designed for adults. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. This program will follow Griffiths Trail, a difficult trail which is generally flat but can be muddy or icy depending on the temperature and conditions. One resting bench is available along our ½ mile route.

Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, NY, hosts the second in this global development series of Bobsled and Skeleton competitions from November 16 through 19, 2023. Like nothing you’ve seen before, these athletes have something to prove and it shows! Sliders fly on ice, pushing out the start with pure strength and speed, then navigating the technical turns of our unique combined track. This workshop will be led by Curator of the John L. Wehle Gallery Brandon W. Brooks and Gallery Manager Darlene Braun, and will include a brief tour of the Gallery’s historic fashion and textile vaults to see our mounts in action! Cooking over a fire connects us with our ancestors in a very tasty way! Using traditional campfire cooking methods like roasting, coal stacking, and cast iron we’ll cook up some pumpkins just like people would have done 250 years ago. While the pumpkins are roasting, we’ll learn about the history of Marcellus and Baltimore Woods, ponder how life was different back then, and how we can still see evidence of their lifestyles on the landscape today. Then, we’ll eat!

This program is designed for ages 5 and up. Space is limited. Online pre-registration is required. This program will take place outside of our log cabin, on flat grass with benches and picnic tables. Young children must be supervised by their parents around the fire at all times.

Depart from Utica’s Union Station and travel north while being served hot chocolate and cookies, interacting with Cocoa Chefs, and listening to Liam Neeson’s reading of The POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride, by Chris van Allsburg. When you arrive at the North Pole (Holland Patent, NY), Santa will board the train, spending time with each and every family during the return trip and giving children the first present of Christmas (a silver bell, just like in the book or movie)! For a first class ride, travel to the North Pole in the Cocoa Class car! Mrs. Claus and the Cocoa Chef will be the hostess’ for you in the first-class car. Families will be served cookies and hot chocolate in souvenir mugs while being seated at table seating.

There’s no better way to celebrate the Holiday Season than a train ride with Santa and his helpers. The train is beautifully decorated from the lights strung along the outside to the garland and ornaments on the inside. Enjoy an afternoon train ride with Santa and Mrs. Claus and their helpers. There will be Holiday music, goodies and refreshments for everyone’s enjoyment. The ride runs about 2 ½ hours and reservations are required. Children younger than 3 are Free! PARENTS: Bring a small gift with your child’s name attached to be given as a surprise from Santa himself on the train. Sneak it behind the Depot to the Reindeer Shack the day of your ride.

The talented students and chefs of the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute took this tradition to the next level by creating a life-size gingerbread village.

Check out the schedule to see when live entertainment, chef demos, and story time is scheduled. You can even purchase a bag with cookies and crafts to take home with you to continue the fun! The whole place is decked out, so you’ll find something festive around every corner.

There’s no better way to celebrate the Holiday Season than a train ride with Santa and his helpers. The train is beautifully decorated from the lights strung along the outside to the garland and ornaments on the inside. Enjoy an afternoon train ride with Santa and Mrs. Claus and their helpers. There will be Holiday music, goodies and refreshments for everyone’s enjoyment. The ride runs about 2 ½ hours and reservations are required. Children younger than 3 are Free! PARENTS: Bring a small gift with your child’s name attached to be given as a surprise from Santa himself on the train. Sneak it behind the Depot to the Reindeer Shack the day of your ride.

When you arrive at the North Pole (Holland Patent, NY), Santa will board the train, spending time with each and every family during the return trip and giving children the first present of Christmas (a silver bell, just like in the book or movie)! For a first class ride, travel to the North Pole in the Cocoa Class car! Mrs. Claus and the Cocoa Chef will be the hostess’ for you in the first-class car. Families will be served cookies and hot chocolate in souvenir mugs while being seated at table seating.

Santa will visit with each and every family during the return trip. Children (and parents!) are encouraged to come in pajamas.

Set to the sounds of the motion picture, passengers will relive the classic story as they are whisked away on THE POLAR EXPRESS™ for a magical trip to the North Pole. Once on board, the Conductor will work their way through the coach and punch your golden ticket as you’re served hot chocolate and a delicious cookie by our dancing chefs! Passengers will read along with the classic children’s book, The Polar Express, by Chris Van Allsburg. Once at The North Pole, Santa and his Elves board the train to greet passengers and each guest is given the first gift of Christmas – a silver sleigh bell. During the trip, characters on each car lead passengers in caroling and on board entertainment – just like in the film! Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The City of Saratoga Springs will once again be decorated for the holiday season during the annual Victorian Streetwalk. Plan a visit to downtown Saratoga for all kinds of family-friendly activities and entertainment. It's a festive tradition that you don't want to miss! A traditional tree lighting will be held at 6 p.m. to help kick off the holiday season. Immediately following the tree lighting, children will have the opportunity to visit Santa in his Cottage. More than 25 sites will feature free entertainment.

Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of “Twas The Night Before Christmas.” Pamela McColl, author and publisher, will teach about the history of the beloved poem. A dedicated table for Toys for Toga outside G. Willikers store will be collecting new and unwrapped toys for local children. Toys for Toga invites the community to contribute, ensuring every child experiences the magic of the season.

The Art of Illustration exhibit features original painted illustrations from children’s books created by local artists Kate Hartley, Jan Palmer and Anthony Richichi, as well as Jan Palmer’s new Witches Dance portraits! We’ll be exhibiting original illustrations (as well as sketches, books and materials in the glass cases) from Kate Hartley, Jan Palmer and Anthony Richichi. The artists will have books, prints and more for sale on their opening night, and plan to do readings/signings throughout the exhibit.
