Experience the French history of Ogdensburg and the surrounding area with sweeping views of the St. Lawrence River at Fort De La Presentation.
In Ogdensburg, you can visit the site of the former Fort De La Presentation, a French mission and military fort established by Abbé François Picquet located on Van Rensselaer, Point, also known as Lighthouse Point. The Fort De La Presentation Association is on a mission to reconstruct the fort, as only the remains of structures exist today, and to build a visitor center and museum on the site. As it is now, the grounds, public park and pavilion are popular with and open to visitors and provide gorgeous waterside views of the St. Lawrence River. The site is also home to the Abbé Picquet Trail and 1812 Peace Garden, with a walking and bike path, benches and interpretive signs, picnic area, and more, as well as the Newell Family Archaeological Park. Special events and living history demonstrations, from battle reenactments on both land and water to meal preparation, blacksmithing, medical care, spinning and quilting, are held here often as well.
