Hiking, Biking, Kayaking
Hiking & Biking trails are found in City & State Parks, around waterfalls, and in remote locations, kayaking is popular around marinas, beaches, slow-flowing rivers & inland lakes, and rail biking is set up on abandoned rail lines in the Adriondacks and Catskills.
There are numerous birding trails around Nature Centers and in State Parks in every Region.
The Erie Canal is a favorite Recreational Haven for hiking, biking, kayaking & birding from the Hudson River (in the eastern part of the State) to the City of Buffalo (in the western part).
Hikers & Bikers use level (resurfaced) towpaths which folllow the 512 miles of east-west and north-south waterways.
The still waters are ideal for kayaking and small boating – and towns along the Canal provide easy access, Kayak & Bike RENTALS, amenities, delicious food and drink, and great places to stay..
