Located in an historic Pennsylvania Railroad Depot, this Mayville museum is host to thousands of artifacts and documents representing all aspects of our area's rich and varied past.
The 1871 Building was replaced in 1925 on the shoreline at the head of beautiful Lake Chautauqua, featured close to one end of the historic “Portage Trail,” which was once used by Native Americans and later by French explorers and soldiers.
Notable visitors who passed through the depot included Harry Houdini, President Franklin Roosevelt and the Liberty Bell, among others.
The depot museum is open 1-5 p.m., Friday-Sunday, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A visit is free however, donations ($1) are very much appreciated.
