About Mayville

Located on the northern end of Chautauqua Lake, the peaceful, cozy town of Mayville is Chautauqua's county seat and a popular destination for boating, fishing, swimming and sailing. Surrounded by rolling hills and rural countryside, the area is home to an abundance of trails for hiking and biking, which double as snowmobiling and cross-country skiing trails in the winter. And, along with its spectacular views, Mayville’s backyard is great for sightseers and birdwatchers.

The village is also a short trip to the world-renowned Chautauqua Institution, a haven for music and the arts, where visitors can enjoy professional symphony, opera, theater, ballet, and big-name entertainment amid a setting of magnificent Victorian architecture.

The Pennsylvania Railroad built a train station and pier on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in Mayville in 1825 and is still standing today. In 1993, this historic railroad station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and part of the station operates as the Mayville Depot Museum, which features exhibits of local history, railroad artifacts, Chautauqua Lake, ice harvesting, furniture manufacturing and steamboats.

Mayville is noted for its annual Winter Festival, but it is also host to a variety of music and entertainment festivals year-round. And with eclectic dining options and lodging choices, Mayville may be just what you need whether it is relaxation or adventure – or both!
