About New Paltz

New Paltz is home to the State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz campus which offers exciting live music, theater and dance performances as well as the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art. The lively village itself is host to a bevy of farm-to-table restaurants and craft brew pubs, unique shops and is the epicenter to all kinds of fun and adventurous recreational activities, like swimming in glacial lakes, rock climbing, hiking and biking, all revealing spectacular views of the Hudson Valley and river. Affectionately called “The Gunks,” the Shawangunk Mountains are perched majestically along the town’s, boasting some of the best rock-climbing east of the Mississippi.

The Historic Huguenot Street, a National Historic Landmark District, brings you back into the country’s earliest French Huguenot settlement times, featuring seven unique stone houses dating to the early 1700s, a burial ground, a reconstructed 1717 stone church and a replica Esopus Munsee wigwam, all in their original setting.

Come hungry, because New Paltz’s dining scene features cuisine from all over the world including Thai, Mexican, Asian Fusion, Vietnamese, Italian, Turkish, German, Indian and more along with down-home American comfort food.
