Interact with the World-famous Erie Canal Museum
The interactive Erie Canal Museum housed in Syracuse' 1850 Weighlock building is the world’s leading interpreter of Erie Canal history...
The world’s leading interpreter of Erie Canal history, the Erie Canal Museum is housed in the National Register 1850 Syracuse Weighlock Building (where canal boats were weighed to assess a toll) and is the only structure of its kind in the world.
Dedicated to collecting and preserving the canal history, the museum features a full-size canal boat, hands-on-interactive exhibits, vignettes about life along the canal and a special exhibits gallery.
The Canal Museum says it best - "Come aboard a full-size replica canal boat, explore life in a canal town. Put on a puppet show. Experience a part of history that played an imperitive role in the growth and development of the United States. The Erie Canal Museum is a must-see for adults and children of all ages."
