Discover Maritime History at the H. Lee White Museum
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum chronicles more than 400 years of maritime history in the Eastern Lake Ontario area
Since 1982, The H. Lee White Maritime Museum has been entrusted with and dedicated to preserving the area’s diverse and rich nautical history through exhibits and artifacts which chronicle more than 400 years of regional maritime history.
Located in Oswego along the Seaway Trail, the Maritime Museum is open all year featuring a gift shop, boating education center and several significantly historic vessels open for tours May through October. Vessels include the National Historic Landmark WWII Tugboat LT-5, the 1927 NYS Derrick Boat 8 (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), and the last American commercial fishing vessel on Lake Ontario, named the Eleanor D.
This one-of-a-kind maritime museum hosts a wide variety of educational programs for all ages, as well as fun and informative events throughout the year, and the Museum also oversees the physical restoration and educational interpretation of the Oswego West Pierhead Lighthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
