Oswego - Where the Waters never End
Located where the Oswego River meets the Great Lake Ontario, Oswego is acclaimed for its gorgeous sunsets ..
Known as "The Port City," Oswego is acclaimed around the region and beyond for its gorgeous Lake Ontario sunsets, excellent fishing, historic sites, museums and, of course lake effect snow !
Two of its most notable attractions, next to the lake’s striking natural beauty and harbor lighthouse, are historic Fort Ontario, which overlooks the lake, and the recently renovated Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum. Safe Haven at Fort Ontario was the only Official U.S. Government location where 982 Jewish refugees rescued from the Nazi Holocaust were housed during the Second World War.
A newly opened indoor Splash Park for kids and their parents graces the downtown Clarion Hotel, and Oswego also offers year-round events and festivals, including the famous 4 day Harborfest in late summer. Charter fishing, a children’s museum, a recently upgraded river walk, and the H. Lee White Maritime Museum highlight the area’s rich nautical history. One of the most thrilling automotive raceway tracks in Upstate New York is found on the East side of Town, the Oswego Speedway.
A downtown Farmer's Market is operational every Thursday evening during the Summer months and you can stroll through eclectic boutiques, specialty shops, cafes and restaurants on both sides of the River. An elevated Oswego Harbor Rail Trail trestle bridge provides an exciting walking perspective of the city as you cross over the Water.
But wait…don’t leave before dusk and make sure to have your camera ready to capture Oswego’s always glorious sunset over Lake Ontario, as you relax with your favorite beverage and meal at one of the harbor front bars & restaurants any time of the year!
