Built in 1816, The Seward House Historic Museum, in Auburn, is situated on two acres of lush gardens and trees.
Originally built for wealthy Cayuga County Judge named Elijah Miller, the home is named after his son-in-law, William Henry Seward. A New York State Senator, Governor of New York and a United States Senator, Seward also served as Secretary of State in the Lincoln and Johnson administrations and is credited with spearheading the purchase of the Alaskan Territory from Russia in 1867.
This beautiful museum is filled with original furnishings, artwork and personal belongings owned by the Seward family and offers many educational and seasonal programs in addition to guided house tours.
