Founded in 1875, the Binghamton Zoo, formerly known as Ross Park Zoo, is the fifth oldest zoo in the country. 


Set in a lush, wooded environment, the zoo’s original asphalt, concrete and steel bars has been transformed into winding wooded paths with naturalistic exhibits housing more than 100 different species, including amur leopards, red wolves, snow leopards, lemurs, an aviary, penguins, otters, wallabies, howler monkeys and more.
 

Zoo amenities include a pavilion with areas for barbecuing (outside the entrance), a small park, amphitheater, a trackless train ride called the ZooExpress, a carousel (currently under renovation), a snack shack and rest rooms. The zoo also hosts educational program and many annual events and activities throughout its season which runs from April through November.
