The Erie Canalway Trail is a cycling destination for riders of all abilities and it is a part of the Empire State Trail, a 750-mile recreational trail which is the nation's longest multi-use trail. Following one of the world's most famous man-made waterways, the Erie Canal trail spans New York State between Albany and Buffalo.


Whether enjoying a leisurely ride from one village to another or spending a week completing the entire 400 miles, the Erie Canalway Trail offers endless adventures exploring the cultural diversity of charming villages and exciting cities, cultural attractions and natural scenic beauty that is Upstate New York. And while passing through more than 200 upstate New York communities, the Erie Canalway Trail provides the opportunity for fun at the many fairs, festivals and special events along the way.


In the winter, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing opportunties.
