Holland Land Office Museum
See exhibits about the history of the Holland Land Office and the region as well as military history and more...
Located in downtown Batavia, the 1810 Holland Land Office building is a stone building designed by surveyor Joseph Ellicott. It was the third and last office of the Holland Land Company, which owned almost all of what is today Western New York. In 1960, it was declared a National Historic Landmark, the first one in Western New York and the only one in Genesee County.
Today it is a museum, with exhibits about the history of the company and the region as well as military history. There is also a Native American room where you can explore the rich history of the Native American tribes of Western New York; a pioneer kitchen where you can experience original items of the times like butter churns, bed warmers, a spinning wheel, and sewing machines.
