Originally settled by the Society of Friends, more commonly known as the Quakers, the city was established as Lockport in 1829, named for the set of Erie Canal locks (Lock Numbers 34 and 35) within the city.

This historic city has more than 25 properties on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Thomas Oliver House, High and Locust Streets Historic District, Industrial District, Lowertown Historic District, Niagara County Courthouse and County Clerk's Office, Union Station and the United States Post Office, to name a few.

A mesh of history and modern, Lockport offers fun and educational attractions for the whole family. Skate or ride an ice bumper car – yes, they have those! –  at the year-round Cornerstone Ice Arena, walk through history along the Erie Canal, enjoy the many Erie Canal activities or visit some of the cool and unique wineries the city is home to.

And while there, you will want to make sure to take a fascinating and informative cruise on the Lockport Locks & Erie Canal Cruises or a waking tour of the Lockport Cave.
