Cumming Nature Center
The Cumming Nature Center is a 900-acre environmental education facility offering themed hiking and exploring trails, educational programs, events and service-learning opportunities.
Owned by the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC), the Cumming Nature Center is a 900-acre environmental education facility offering hiking and exploring trails, educational programs, events and service-learning opportunities.
Meander through the preserve's more than six miles of themed trails that will take you through wetlands, to an observation tower overlooking a 35-acre beaver pond, climbing forest roads and a hike through the past with a reconstructed 18th-century homestead and interpretive signs that tell of the lives of early settlers.
Check out inside the nature center with its several interactives clustered around a highly detailed mural by a regional artist depicting animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects in their natural camouflaged habitat, challenging visitors to find them. There is also a permanent play space designed especially for preschoolers with over-sized frogs, turtles, tadpoles, lily pads, and mushrooms in a make-believe pond.
In the winter, enjoy 15 miles of groomed ski trails and a 3-mile loop for snowshoeing with the Hiking trails available if there's not enough snow to ski.
