Often referred to as “The Jewel of Beacon,” The Howland Cultural Center, formerly known as Howland Library, promotes the arts and culture of the area’s artists promote and provides a space where they can exhibit, perform and showcase their unique artistic talents. The center also produces its own events as well as presenting those of others.
 

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this ornate brick building was designed by famed architect Richard Morris Hunt in 1872 for his brother-in-law, Civil War General Joseph Howland and his wife, Eliza Woolsey Howland.
