Situated on the dramatic Shawangunk Mountain ridge in Ulster County, Minnewaska State Park Preserve rises more than 2,000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by rugged, rocky terrain. Along with numerous waterfalls, the park boasts three crystalline sky lakes, clear streams cut into valleys, dense hardwood forests and carved out sheer cliffs and ledges that open to beautiful views.

Thirty-five miles of carriage roads and 50 miles of footpaths offer wonderful biking, walking, hiking along with simply enjoying nature. And, all this within an hour and a half drive from New York City.

Other activities visitors can also enjoy include swimming, picnicking, scuba-diving, rock-climbing, bouldering, boating, technical rock climbing and horseback riding trails. Winter snows bring great opportunities to snowshoe and cross-country ski.

The Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground is within a five-minute drive of the main entrances of Minnewaska State Park Preserve.

PET POLICY: Dogs only are allowed and must be on a leash not more than 6 feet. Dogs are not allowed in buildings, camping, picnic or bathing areas or on walkways or on the cross-country ski trails when they are groomed and open for cross-country skiing only.
