Aug. 20-25, 2024: First held in 1842, today the fair is a fun six-day extravaganza of food, midway rides and games and entertainment. The Dutchess County Fair encompasses agriculture, horticulture, turn-of-the-century treasures, a working blacksmith shop and gas-powered engine show, Pleasant Valley Historic Train Station, and much more.
More 1,000 individual exhibitors will display everything from cows, horses, pigs, chickens, sheep, and goats to jams, jellies, quilts and fine arts at the fair with 12 acres of the fairgrounds dedicated to showcasing the finest in local livestock. There will also be live demonstrations of milking and sheep shearing and a wool workroom.
In addition to breathtaking horticultural displays, fairgrounds gardeners will enhance the character of the 147-acre fairgrounds with dozens of themed gardens that include waterfalls and ponds filled with koi and colorful water lilies.
The Century Museum Village features “storytellers” in costume who will take you back to a quieter, simpler time. Stroll past a printer’s shop complete with a working 1900 printing press, admire a living room filled with Victorian furniture and a rural kitchen and watch as repairs are performed in a Model-T-era auto shop.
