  In Summer, enjoy an ice cream as you watch as the hawks glide over the horizon of shimmering Lake Ontario or sail your boat under the colorful glow of a vibrant sunset. Kayak or canoe the rippling waters of the Oswego River or Salmon River or drop a line to experience world-class fishing like nowhere else. There is no shortage of fishing charters while cities like Oswego and Pulaski offer the unique fishing adventure called “Urban Fishing,” where anglers can fish from downtown riverbanks and charming walkways, all just minutes from hotels, restaurants and other amenities and activities.
 

In Winter, there is no shortage of snow and fun when snowshoes and cross-country skis take winter lovers along trails and throughout state parks. Rev up your snowmobile and zip around the many trails intertwined throughout the county, try your hand at ice climbing at Salmon River Falls or watch dog-sled racing in Winona Forest.
 

History abounds in Oswego County and is home to the star-shaped Fort Ontario State Historic Site which overlooks Lake Ontario and is open to the public offering exciting re-enactments, haunted tours and more. From 1944 to 1946 the fort served as the only refugee camp in the United States for mostly Jewish victims of the Nazi Holocaust and the Safe Haven Museum next to the fort brings this important event to life. Throughout the centuries, the Iroquois, French and British armies, the Erie and Oswego Canals, the Underground Railroad, and local civic leaders have all left their historic, which can be explored today in area museums, historic sites, local libraries and through distinguished architecture.
