This magical exhibit will highlight the Botanical Gardens’ amazing plant collection and the Spring Flower Exhibit.
Each Gardens After Dark exhibit focuses on the Botanical Gardens’ mission of connecting people to the natural world in a new way and in a new light-literally. Filled with colorful and soft lighting, Gardens After Dark enhances the mesmerizing plant collection and the larger-than-life historic conservatory that surrounds. Visitors will take a self-guided tour around the Botanical Gardens after dark to experience spring in a whole new light.

GALLERY EXHIBIT | “Tied Together” by Julia Koerner Johnson. This show is all about macramé, a traditionally kitschy craft that will be elevated to conceptually explore nature, human connections, and the world at large. In this show, the ancient craft of macramé is explored further than a craft as the artist uses the rope as a connector to bring together opposing items and idea where the knot will be a central connector and common ground. Johnson was raised in Ballston Spa on a small farm, graduated from the Hoosac School (2007) and then the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore MD (2012) with a BFA in fine art. Julia then worked at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY until 2015. Julia currently works for Gore Mountain Ski Resort in North Creek, as the Design and Communications Specialist and loves calling the beautiful Adirondacks her home.

Shake off that winter chill and celebrate spring with a visit from the Easter Bunny on the Catskill Mountain Railroad! Due to Covid-19, rides will be on open-air flat cars – so bundle up and dress warm! Passenger count will be limited to 60 passengers to allow for distancing. There will be no stopping or getting off the train. Each passenger will receive an individual bag of candy and passengers will visit with the friendly Easter Bunny before returning to Kingston. Please allow up to one hour from the complete train ride experience.

This show is all about macramé, a traditionally kitschy craft that will be elevated to conceptually explore nature, human connections, and the world at large. In this show, the ancient craft of macramé is explored further than a craft as the artist uses the rope as a connector to bring together opposing items and idea where the knot will be a central connector and common ground. Johnson was raised in Ballston Spa on a small farm, graduated from the Hoosac School (2007) and then the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore MD (2012) with a BFA in fine art. Julia then worked at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY until 2015. Julia currently works for Gore Mountain Ski Resort in North Creek, as the Design and Communications Specialist and loves calling the beautiful Adirondacks her home.

Inspired by one of the great naturalists of the 19th century, Enos Mills, each excursion will take us on an adventure as we explore away from the main trails. Our 182-acre “classroom” is rich with diverse habitats, including streams, forests, wetlands, beaver ponds, and open meadows. This four-week series for kids ages 5-13 runs weekly on Thursday afternoons. $40 members; $60 public. Pre-registration is required and the price includes all four weeks. Themes for each week are listed on the website, so get ready for some April adventure!

This show is all about macramé, a traditionally kitschy craft that will be elevated to conceptually explore nature, human connections, and the world at large. In this show, the ancient craft of macramé is explored further than a craft as the artist uses the rope as a connector to bring together opposing items and idea where the knot will be a central connector and common ground. Johnson was raised in Ballston Spa on a small farm, graduated from the Hoosac School (2007) and then the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore MD (2012) with a BFA in fine art. Julia then worked at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY until 2015. Julia currently works for Gore Mountain Ski Resort in North Creek, as the Design and Communications Specialist and loves calling the beautiful Adirondacks her home.

In Scooby-Doo! and The Lost City of Gold, fans of music, discovery, and gh-gh-ghosts! won’t need a passport to travel with Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Daphne, Fred, and Velma to Alta Luz, a fictitious South American town where ghostly sightings of La Dama de Oro (The Lady In Gold) threaten to scare attendees away from the annual music festival and Incan sun god celebration. Through dialogue, dance, song, and amazing landscapes, audiences will join the journey as the Gang takes the Mystery Machine on its first flight to a land of ancient civilizations, legends, and culture.

GALLERY EXHIBIT | “Tied Together” by Julia Koerner Johnson. This show is all about macramé, a traditionally kitschy craft that will be elevated to conceptually explore nature, human connections, and the world at large. In this show, the ancient craft of macramé is explored further than a craft as the artist uses the rope as a connector to bring together opposing items and idea where the knot will be a central connector and common ground. Johnson was raised in Ballston Spa on a small farm, graduated from the Hoosac School (2007) and then the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore MD (2012) with a BFA in fine art. Julia then worked at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY until 2015. Julia currently works for Gore Mountain Ski Resort in North Creek, as the Design and Communications Specialist and loves calling the beautiful Adirondacks her home.

remembered for the Emmy Award winning series “In Living Color” where he created sketch
characters like Homey the Clown, Handiman, and Blaine from Men on Film. His writing for the
series earned him personally two Emmy nominations in addition to the shows
nominations. Damon also co-created, starred and executive produced the hit series, “My Wife
and Kids” which is currently in syndication worldwide and received numerous awards, including
the People's Choice for Favorite New Television Series, and Favorite Male Performer. Most
recently he starred on the hit tv show Lethal Weapon.

Spring Lights is inspired by the artist Thomas Cole (1801-1848) and his love of nature. Visitors with timed tickets will explore a one-way looping path to encounter a building-wide projection by the contemporary artist Brian Kenny and immersive light and sound environments designed by Clerestory Light, a leading “son et lumière” creative agency. The experience features audio of Thomas Cole’s written words, brought to life by the film actor Jamie Bell, with special thanks to Brian Swardstrom.

Let’s celebrate Earth Day the Baltimore Woods way! Come on out for a fun and educational celebration of our planet. This year the event will feature a one-way Earth Day trail for you and your household to enjoy the wonder of the natural world with stops for games, activities, take home crafts, and a scavenger hunt. There are two sessions available for sign up; please register in advance. Session one runs from 1pm-2:30pm and session two runs from 2:30pm-4pm. At Baltimore Woods Nature Center, the health and safety of our staff and visitors is of utmost importance. All in-person programming will follow best practices for keeping our participants safe, including physical distancing and wearing facial coverings.

Every spring Indian Ladder Farms comes to life with sights, sounds, smells and touch. Come into our Baby Animal Barn where tour participants will see, pet and learn about chicks, turkey poults, ducklings, goslings, bunnies, lambs, goat kids, piglets, and calves. Visit our Goat Playground and learn about goat behavior while cheering on our lively goat kids as they romp and play with toys. Visit our outdoor farm animal exhibits of adult cows, goats, sheep and poultry to see what baby farm animals will look like when they are all grown up.

GALLERY EXHIBIT | “Tied Together” by Julia Koerner Johnson. This show is all about macramé, a traditionally kitschy craft that will be elevated to conceptually explore nature, human connections, and the world at large. In this show, the ancient craft of macramé is explored further than a craft as the artist uses the rope as a connector to bring together opposing items and idea where the knot will be a central connector and common ground. Johnson was raised in Ballston Spa on a small farm, graduated from the Hoosac School (2007) and then the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore MD (2012) with a BFA in fine art. Julia then worked at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY until 2015. Julia currently works for Gore Mountain Ski Resort in North Creek, as the Design and Communications Specialist and loves calling the beautiful Adirondacks her home.

Come and see "Spring Lights," a new outdoor nighttime walk-through experience at the Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, NY. Spring Lights is inspired by the artist Thomas Cole (1801-1848) and his love of nature. Visitors with timed tickets will explore a one-way looping path to encounter a building-wide projection by the contemporary artist Brian Kenny and immersive light and sound environments designed by Clerestory Light, a leading “son et lumière” creative agency. The experience features audio of Thomas Cole’s written words, brought to life by the film actor Jamie Bell, with special thanks to Brian Swardstrom.

Has the warmer weather put a spring in your step? Come to Baltimore Woods for a hike around the preserve. Along the way we’ll look for wildflowers, listen for song birds, and breathe in the fresh spring air. Our hike will be easy-moderate with hills. This will be an outdoor program. Please come dressed for the weather. Pre-registration is required and due to limited capacities associated with the pandemic, walk-ins cannot be accommodated. Cost is $6 for members; $9 for the public, and this is a program recommended for adult nature enthusiasts.
