When you’re planning your spring and summer adventures in Upstate New York, consider a visit to the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway for the chance to experience the beauty of the southern Adirondacks on a train ride in a vintage railcar. Trips leave from Corinth Station for excursions along a historic railroad originally built in 1864 by The Adirondack Company to connect Saratoga Springs to North Creek, and offer a chance to appreciate history and nature on a unique scenic or specialty train ride.
The most popular trip is a one-and-a-half-hour scenic train ride from Corinth to Greenfield and back about a vintage train with several unique seating options. There are eight seats in the 1916 Pullman observation car, which is the last car on the train and offers views out the back, and 50 in the Palmer Falls Lounge Car from 1950. There’s also a flat car with open air seating toward the front of the train, where you can smell and hear the engine working, and first-class seating in the dining car. Standard coach seating is first-come, first-served, but the trip features scenic views from any of these cars. For a more unique experience, you can also book a ride in the cab of the Alco 5 locomotive itself; limited to one person per trip, this is a unique and hands-on opportunity to sit alongside the engineer and learn about this historic locomotive and how it works.
There are also specialty tours offered regularly throughout the summer season, including a one-hour Pizza Express ride and a one-hour Sunday Funday Sundae ride that are suitable for all ages. Three-and-a-half-hour dinner tours are offered on the LaMothe Landing Limited on certain Saturdays; only open to ages 13 and up, the trip includes a sunset ride through the southern Adirondacks an outdoor dinner with wine, spirits, beer and live music at a historic 1700s-era farmhouse. For those 21 and over, there is also a wine and beer-themed trip available aboard the Sunset Limited, a 90-minute evening ride with wine, beer, and charcuterie boxes available as you watch the sunset. In the dining car, you can enjoy the views and the quiet; choose the outdoor seating car if you enjoy listening to live music on the ride (as weather permits).
On select dates in 2025, guests 21 and over can enjoy a special three-hour Moonlight Moonshine Express excursion. The includes a ride to LaMothe Landing, where you’ll sample moonshine, wine and beer around a campfire and receive a souvenir glass before taking a ride back to the station beneath the full moon. Throughout the rest of the year, there are also several seasonal excursions to choose from, including tours to experience fall foliage, visit a pumpkin patch, attend an Oktoberfest celebration, board a candy cane train to celebrate the holidays, visit a Christmas tree farm, take a spring maple season tour with pancake breakfast, or enjoy special events for St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and Mother’s Day, to name a few.
Rates, reservations, and information on the trips available can be found on the Saratoga Corinth and Hudson Railway website.
