How Cool is this !!  For 3 1/2 minutes, Daylight will turn into darkness and a glowing Ring of Fire called the Corona will encircle the eclipsed Sun ..

You can watch the Event live by wearing special protective glasses  as the Shadow of Totality traverses across Western NY, the Northern Finger Lakes, Thousand Islands, and Northern Adirondacks on its way to New England and Canada.

The last Total Solar Eclipse  in NY State was 99 years ago and the next one will be in 2079. A Total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Sun & Earth - and completely blocks out the Sun's rays.

All of NY State will be able to see some portion of the Eclipse, but shaded areas on the Map (left, courtesy of www.eclipse2024.org ) represent the spectacular Path of Totality.

**
If you're traveling to an 'Eclipse Party' or 'Getaway' in an area close to the Path of Totality, you should allow extra time for congested roadways and travel.
Outdoor activities, planetarium expos & more are expected to draw many visitors from around the U.S. and the World.

Eclipse2024.org  has all the science and information you need to fully understand the Eclipse of 2024.

In the Jan 3, 2024 Edition of Scientific American Magazine,  Johnathan O'Callaghan notes "North America will soon be treated to one of the rarest of heavenly delights: a total solar eclipse. On April 8 the moon will pass in front of our star, projecting a sun-devouring shadow across the entire continent, all the way from the city of Mazatlán, Mexico to the very easterly edge of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The moon’s shadow will take some two and a half hours to cover that ground, turning day into night for up to four minutes for the millions of onlookers in its path. Yet it is not just the general public that is eagerly anticipating this event, the last total solar eclipse to occur across North America until 2044. Scientists are preparing several unique experiments for the occasion, using the eclipse to glimpse some of the sun’s closest-held secrets—and to study some of its subtle effects on Earth." ..
