The National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum Induction Weekend begins at 7 pm Friday, October 21 with an evening of Welsh music and poetry in honor of Rev. Robert Everett who will be inducted to the Hall of Fame the next day along with Calvin Fairbank and Stephen Myers. The weekend of events also includes a guided tour of the Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark with Norman K. Dann PhD, a presentation by Lynn Fairbank on her great, great grandfather abolitionist Calvin Fairbank, a 19th C. Box Dinner with menu suggestions from Elizabeth Smith Miller’s In the Kitchen cookbook, and more. On Sunday, Oct. 23, join in the Abolitionist Freedom Walk which reenacts the walk of 104 abolitionists who escaped the mob threats in Utica by hiring a lumber barge to transport them to Canastota from which they walked to the antislavery meeting in Peterboro. The 2022 five mile Freedom Walk will be from Canastota to Clockville and back to Canastota.
