The Lake Placid Olympic Center has a total of four ice surfaces – three indoor, one outdoor – for Lake Placid public skating as well as athlete training. It’s also the site where Olympic history was made when the US men's hockey team won gold in 1980 and where 16-year-old figure skater Sonja Henie won an Olympic gold medal in 1932.

In front of the complex is the speed skating Oval, where in 1932 local Olympian Jack Shea and teammate Irving Jaffee each won two gold medals, Eric Heiden won five in 1980 – and where you can skate all winter long.

Inside, the 7,700-seat 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena – named after the Miracle on Ice coach –hosts national and international figure skating competitions, USA Hockey events, Stars on Ice, ECAC Hockey Championships, and other special events.
