Located on 750 lush acres in Chautaugua, The Chautauqua Institution is a non-profit education center and summer resort for adults and youth, drawing 8,000 people for its nine-week summer season, and thousands more who attend art openings and performances of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, the Opera Company and the School of Dance. The Chautauqua Institution Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was further designated a National Historic Landmark.

Chautauqua is perhaps best known for its morning lecture series when the institute’s Amphitheater stage becomes the platform for distinguished speakers across a broad range of disciplines. Susan B. Anthony argued for women’s suffrage in 1892, and Franklin D. Roosevelt gave his "I Hate War" speech in 1936 and Margaret Mead, Amelia Earhart, Jane Goodall, Sandra Day O’Connor and Kurt Vonnegut among others have all spoken here.

The institute operates the 152-room Athenaeum Hotel situated on Chautauqua Lake, available for short- and long-term stays. There are also four public swimming beaches within the Chautauqua Institution grounds, all open during the summer season.

Chautauqua Institution is host to a plethora of events all year-round.
