Taste the Greatest Flavors of the Finger Lakes at the New York Kitchen

posted by Teresa Farrell at 2020-01-20 18:44:00

Winter is the ideal time to cozy up with some fine wine and gourmet food to sip and sample any lingering blues away, and Finger Lakes town of Canandaigua is the place to do it.  This elegant town is home to one of the state’s best spots to enjoy fresh local flavors and decadent drinks-- the New York Kitchen, formerly known as the New York Wine and Culinary Center.

Food and flavors are elevated to a new level at the New York Kitchen. Located on the Canandaigua Lake Pier, the multi-purpose restaurant, classroom and event space is a perfect place to visit on a beautiful sunny day, but it’s far from a summertime-only destination. Year-round, it’s a hub for all the greatest flavors of Upstate New York, showcasing the best of the state’s agriculture, food, wine and craft beverage industries and unforgettable palate-pleasing experience unique to this specific spot.

The Restaurant at New York Kitchen serves up fresh, delicious, locally-sourced meals prepared daily by the expert team of chefs on site. The menu, though it changes based on what’s in season, offers dishes like butternut squash risotto and pan seared sea scallops alongside casual staples like burgers, mac and cheese and pizza, but everything has a freshness and an elevated feel to it, helped by the fact that the menu lists the local farms where food is sourced right on the menu, too.

Meanwhile, the on-site Tasting Room offers more than 60 different NY State wines, and 10 local craft beers and ciders on tap from across NY State to sample, and there are plenty of bottles to choose from and take home. New York Kitchen also offers an extensive list of events and classes, including wine and beer pairing and cooking classes, that visitors can plan ahead to attend while visiting the area.

Of course, all this wine has come from somewhere, and often that somewhere isn’t too far away. The Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail is located just outside of town, and its eight member wineries, as well as other member attractions, make for an experience in Finger Lakes flavors you certainly won’t want to miss.

Arbor Hill Grapery and Winery, Finger Lakes Wine Center, Hazlitt’s Red Cat Cellars, Heron Hill, Inspire Moore Winery, and Raymour Estate Cellars round out the roster of wineries, vineyards and wine cellars along the trail, offering tastings and sometimes tours to visitors who want to learn more about winemaking, grape growing, and the effort and art that goes into making these local wines. And of course, you’re right in the midst of Finger Lakes wine country, so there are hundreds more stops to make if you’re looking for wine and craft beverages to sample. Cheers!
