Three Reasons to Get your Tent out and Go Camping this Summer

posted by Teresa Farrell at 2018-03-24 17:22:00

When the weather starts getting warmer, most of us start daydreaming about our next outdoor vacation. Luckily there’s no wrong way to spend a summer weekend—as long as at least one of those summer weekends includes a camping trip! And there’s no better place to do it than Upstate New York. Whether you choose the Thousand Islands, the Adirondacks, the Catskills, the Finger Lakes, or somewhere else entirely, there are hundreds of campgrounds and state parks  just waiting to be discovered throughout the state. If you’re not convinced you should get your tent out, just consider these top three reasons to spend a few nights under the stars this summer.

(1) . It gives you more time to play outside. What better way to enjoy all the fun possibilities this beautiful state has to offer than by camping out, where you’re just a few steps from some sort of outdoor activity or gorgeous view at all times? Between fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking and standup paddle boarding, to name just a few options, there’s plenty to do if you’re camping near the water. Or enjoy a hike or bike ride, a day on the beach  with a book, Frisbee in an open field, or a stroll down a nature trail. Your options are endless.

(2) . It’s the perfect setting to escape, unwind, and relax. What better way to recharge your senses and your soul than to take some time to unplug from the crazy pace of regular life, escape the endless dinging of electronics that want your attention, and enjoy some good old fashioned quiet time to relax and recharge outdoors? Loons calling, fish flopping, birds chirping, little woodland creatures rustling, a breeze blowing off the water, the sound of crickets, the smell of campfire, the clarity of the stars and the brilliance of the sunset… the list goes on and on. All these little details create a backdrop to a camping trip that’s soothing as can be.

(3) . Summer nights. Being outdoors on a warm summer night is simply the best. Sleeping outdoors? Even better! When the day winds down with a stunning sunset, the prime campfire hours are just getting started. There’s nothing like gathering around the fire with your closest friends and family, sharing s’mores and ghost stories, passing around a guitar, taking in the beauty of the stars in the night sky, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Tailor your trip to whatever you like.

Whether your ideal camping trip means packing a tent into a canoe and setting off to a remote island, hooking up the RV for a weekend back on land, or luxury glamping - there are plenty of places you can explore on a camping trip in Upstate New York.
